Thanksgiving Travels 09 Edition

This year was the Thanksgiving travel year so Eric and I made the trip up to Michigan to be with the fam up there. Both of us were very excited to see his Family...especially Mom. She was recently diagnosed with cancer and we hadn't been able to see her until this past week.
Eric is one that likes to travel at night so we left Tuesday evening around 5pm to head up Ann Arbor. We arrived with no incident at about 6 am and decided to take a little nap in the Element. Eric climbed in the back and snoozed on TOP of all the luggage and pillows and various sundry items that traveled with us. If I hadn't been so tired(navigation is hard work) I would have taken a picture.
The first day was Jill's birthday so we celebrated with the whole family then we went out to a Seafood Restaurant. It was pretty good...and our waiter was fun. Good times. But it did make me chuckle that we were in a land locked state eating seafood.

Then came Thanksgiving Day. Awesome food and wonderful times with family. Tammy got up at 5am and made a YUMMY dinner for everyone.  We had a great visit with everyone and then we went  BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING....yep...we shopped ALL NIGHT LONG! I was awake from 8am Thanksgiving day to noon on Friday. Can you say TIRED??? We were still going strong at about 2am though....
I got home about noon and after a 3 hour nap I was up again and Eric and I were off to his 10 year class reunion.  We had a great time. It was so fun to see Eric with old friends. They were all super nice.

Eric took me all around his old home town (DeWitt). It was awesome to see the high school where he went to school.  He also showed me around Ann Arbor....there are LOTS of eclectic shops and places to eat. And the BEST place we went to is a little bakery called Cake Nouveau.

Courtney Clark is the owner of the shop...and you may recognize her name from the
FOOD NETWORK!! She has been on several Cake Competitions and has won many of them. She has also been on TLC on a show called the Last Cake Standing...and she won that competition as well! For those of you who may not know, Courtney is MY FAVORITE competitor in the Cake competitions and I was SUPER excited to meet her.

Anyway...we went to her shop and she was THERE!! She came out and spoke with us for a while and she also introduced us to her husband. In the course of the conversation, it came out that Eric is a Chiropractor. He offered to adjust her right there in the shop. NO I don't have pictures...I didn't want to seem like a stalker. lol  We decided that we would come back again on Monday(we had gone on Saturday) because they had JUST sold out of the chocolate truffle cupcake...doesn't that sound scrumptious???

Oh and it WAS!!!
But do you know what the best part about
meeting Courtney was? Discovering that she is such a nice person, she LOVES what she does, she is talented and down to earth. We seriously enjoyed talking with her and her husband. She even took a couple of photos with us. She and her husband were both very gracious to Eric and myself. What a pleasant surprise to meet someone that you  admire and find that their talent is true...and they are genuine and kind and really love what they do.
Thanks to Courtney and her husband for their hospitality. Can't wait to go back and taste some more cupcakes!!!! And she has wonderful cookies as well.

What a great time... :)
