State Fair 2009 Edition

Ahhhh the State Fair...that blissful time when thousands of North Carolinians and maybe even some from out of state converge on the fair grounds for deep fried everything...mt olive pickles, the cake contest and so many more things. We all have our set patterns that we follow and that is just fine with me...cause I have my little habits at the fair as well.

My FAVORITES...in no particular order(as long as I get to do them)

•  Al's Fries ....LOVE em!
• Roasted Corn...I mean really how can a person pass that up?
• Corn Dog...maybe 2
• Any and mostly ALL samples....hushpuppies...yummmm
• Mt Olive Pickle

And then there are the adventures in culinary delights that in my younger years I would try...

• Gator
• Ostrich
• ANYTHING deep fried(but now alas...my 40 year old body says NO WAY jose for the deep fried experiments.)
• Water games...this is a dual category...it is one my favorites...but ONLY if the price is right. 

This year was another fun filled 2 trips for the Hahn Family. I love it! the first night we road the Ferris Wheel of death and fear...and I screamed the entire time. But I still liked it...when it was OVER. haha And next year I will do it again.
Some new things that we added to our visits for 09:

• Motorcycle Daredevil show. 3 bucks to watch these guys drive a motorcycle in a small dome thingy at speeds of 60 mph...it is loud and crazy and we totally loved it!
• London Broil  GRILLED sandwich...and I must say...I and my body...LOVED it. Tasted great and didn't get sick later.
• I FINALLY allowed myself to get one of those very fancy and delicious looking dipped apples. YUM. I will let you know how it tastes. 
• Added Lemonade to the lists of drinks we got...and I took it off my list...WAY too much sugar. 
• Added Frankies Old Fashioned Pop to the list. You can buy a mug for 6 bucks...and refills are 1 dollar...and you can use it NEXT YEAR!!!!!

Another thing that was new this year..a short visit to the EMS truck. A first in my fair going history. We were at the fair Thursday night with Lisa and Brandon Page and Brandon got something in his eye. He had to take his contact out and he had NO SOLUTION. ouch...so there we were...gathered around Brandon in his time of need. He needed saline solution STAT. So we thought and thought...and someone shouted out(I think it was Eric) PUBLIC SAFETY!!! They can help! So off we went. Encouraging Brandon not to talk for fear he would SWALLOW the contact...eeeewwww.  We got to the PSO only to find the door locked. What? There were some fine gentlemen in overalls sittin outside and we when asked them what to do...they sent us around to another corner to ANOTHER locked door. By now we are all worked up...I mean Brandon's contact could be DIGESTING right now for all we know...then....(insert angelic songs here) we spy an EMS truck. We run to it...and it is empty. Seriously? Sigh...so we are waiting . Trying to figure out what to do. We are about to give up when...(same music) We see the PARAMEDICS coming. Hooray! The day is saved. Our heroes come up weilding a Turkey Leg and an Ice Cream cone. The Fair...and Brandon's contact were saved!!! Oh...what is that you say? You don't BELIEVE me...? I have photos to prove it!! Enjoy!
